This study was carried out to investigate the effect of thermo-mechanical treatment on the damping capacity of 316L stainless steel. α` and ε-martensite were formed by deformation. α`-martensite and stacking faults were formed by thermo-mechanical treatment, and the volume fraction of α`-martensite and stacking faults were rapidly increased by an increasing number of cycles of the thermo-mechanical treatment. With the increasing number of cycles, the damping capacity increased. The damping capacity increased with increasing stacking faults formed by thermo-mechanical treatment. Thus, the damping capacity of thermo-mechanical treated 316L stainless steel was strongly affected by stacking faults. The results confirmed that a good combination of strength and damping capacity was obtained from thermo-mechanical treatment. |
