The objective of this work was to investigate the influences of the fraction of reinforcement(SiCp, 7㎛), stirring rate and melt rheology on the fabrication of AZ91HP/SiCp composites by the new method, stir-cylinder method. The stir-cylinder method was devised to solve the problems of the melt-stirring method by impeller. $quot;U$quot; shape melt surface, the characteristic shape of the stir-cylinder method prohibited the reinforcement agglomerations and gas poring in the melts. As the stirring rate increased, the area of $quot;U$quot; shape melt surface also increased which enhanced the addition of reinforcement. It was observed that the dispersity of reinforcement by the stir-cylinder method was better than that by the melt-stirring method by impeller. The sound composites added upto 30wt% of SiCp could be fabricated by the stir-cylinder method. |
