SiC whisker and Al₂O₃-SiO₂ short fiber reinforced composites and AC8A, AC8B, AC8B(J) unreinforced alloys were fabricated by squeeze casting method. Age hardening behavior and condition of stabilization treatment at 250℃, characteristics of wear resistance for all samples and the tensile strength of the sample composed of the unreinforced AC8B(J) and SiCw/AC8B(J) composite were investigated. All unreinforced alloys were age hardened at 250℃ but age hardening effect was not obtained in the composites. The stabilization time of all composites became more shorter than that of the unreinforced alloys. The tensile strength of samples which composed of the unreinforced AC8B(J) and SiCw/AC8B(J) composites was lower than that of the unreinforced AC8A and AC8B alloys. The wear resistance of the unreinforced alloy was decreased markedly with increasing wear speed, however, it was slightly reduced in the Al₂O₃-SiO₂ reinforced composites. On the other hand, wear resistance of the SiC whisker reinforced composites was hardly changed at high wear speed(2m/s). The wear resistance of all samples was reduced by stabilization treatment at 250℃. |
