Microstructures and mechanical Properties of Rapidly solifdied and Extruded Al - Fe - Cr Alloys

Abstract
Thermal stability of rapidly solidified Al-Fe-Cr alloys was examined. Structural change during consolidation was monitored and the structural stability of the extrudate was assessed. The microstructure of rapidly solidified Al-Fe-Cr alloys was stable up to 623 K. Above 623 K, supersaturated solid solution decomposed as A1_6Fe at grain boundaries. TEM micrographs of the extruded Al-Fe- Cr alloys showed supersaturated solid solution, finely dispersed particles and recrystallized grains.
